My goal: to create a series of paintings based on my journey on the Camino De Santiago. The summer of 2009 I walked part of the Camino. My journey took me 14 days and over 172 miles. I walked and walked and walked and walked. I hope to take one photo from each day walked and paint it. In the end - 14 different photos of totally different landscapes of the Camino.

The Process:

The Process: I created this piece in two days. For some reason it just flowed. Some paintings do just this...while others feel like a long journey. I used only a pallet knife for the entire painting...first time I have done this. I LOVED working with the knife. It's loose and smooth and rough and fun.

The Scene: When I was traveling back in 2008 - I remember walking the streets of Venice and thinking the colors were spectacular. Not a lot of bright hues...but more...Venician hues...rich and robust. One of my favorite parts about Venice were the exterior walls of the buildings - old, pealing, rotting, etc. The colors were breathtaking. I remember walking through the streets...turning around quickly and snap. I took this picture. I took over 3,000 pictures during my travels. I seem to always come back to this picture. The walls. They intrigue me.

This is my beautiful niece, Bella. From the limited time I have spent with her (sadness), I have observed that she LOVES to dance, sing and play with animals. She is also the epitome of a GIRLY-GIRL (hence, the pink). She loves animals (the dog in the lower left hand corner) and music (there is a sheet of her favorite song in the background to the right). When she grows up, I hope she is able to enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.
